UDPATED: Shrewsbury High School Golf Coach Dies

Golf Coach Leo Murray died on Thursday.

Principal Todd Bazydlo sent the following letter to families at the high school:

It is with a heavy heart that I report to you that our golf coach, Leo Murray, has died yesterday. For those of you who knew Coach Murray, he was a dedicated, kind, caring man who developed deep, meaningful relationships with players and their families. Coach Murray was active in the SHS Athletic Booster Association and was the chairperson of our annual golf tournament. Murray was an outstanding role model for our student athletes and served as an outstanding mentor to our younger coaches.

We have convened our school crisis team and our counseling staff is ready to work with students and staff members who may have a difficult time with the news of Coach Murray’s passing. Additionally, we have identified and met with the members of the golf team and have shared the list of players with all staff to help identify students who may have difficulty coping with this terrible news. If your son or daughter is having a difficult time dealing with Coach Murray’s passing please contact your child’s guidance counselor.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Murray’s family and friends.

"Coach Murray was a great person, coach and mentor," said Shrewsbury Director of Athletics. "He prepared his athletes not only for success on the golf course but for success in life. It was amazing to see the relationships he would make with his athletes, opponents and community members. I will truly miss Coach Murray’s friendship, dedication and commitment to the Shrewsbury Community and myself. No matter what the event a person would attend at SHS, you would always see Coach Murray there with a smile on his face. Coach Leo Murray was the true definition of a great coach!"
