Shrewsbury High Wins First Match In Winter Esports Cup
Shrewsbury High School is the reigning Massachusetts state champion in varsity esports.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The reigning Massachusetts state champion varsity esports team from Shrewsbury High School has won the first match in Becker College’s inaugural High School Winter Esports Invitational — The Becker Esports Cup.
On Jan. 25, Shrewsbury and Woodstock Academy, the reigning Connecticut state champions, faced off in the first on-site match of the League of Legends tournament. The teams played in Becker College’s Colleen C. Barrett Center for Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship on the College’s Worcester campus.
“Shrewsbury High School is honored to have been asked to participate in Becker's first high school invitational. It's a great feeling to be in on the ground level of something so new and watch it grow so quickly,” said Steve Mckinstry, Shrewsbury High School’s esports coach.

“I think that Becker is offering an amazing opportunity for the top teams of each state to duke it out against each other," said Shrewsbury sophomore Raul Martins.
This matchup was the second time in school history that Shrewsbury High and Woodstock Academy faced off, with their all-time series now tied at one win each, both teams look to build momentum and continue on the path that may lead them to square off again in the championship game to break the tie.
