Book clubs are a common fixture at many libraries...but what about one at a bar? The Shrewsbury Public Library, teaming up with the libaries of Westborough, Northborough, West Boylston, Worcester, Grafton, and Millbury, are looking to appeal to a demographic that often gets looked over in library programming - the millennial. For those unsure what that means, a Time magazine article defined the Millennials as someone born between 1980 and 2000.
Instead of holding these book discussions at one of the libraries, they will hold the gatherings at O'Connor's in Worcester, with the first discussion slated for September 20th at 7pm. O'Connor's is located at 1160 W Boylston St, Worcester, MA.
Coordinated by Caitlin McKeon, the new reference librarian at the Shrewsbury Public Library, this group will tackle a variety of titles from serious to fun, fiction to non-fiction. This is the first year the Shrewsbury-based club will team up with other libraries. McKeon said she's looking to create an "even stronger network of reading millennials who can join together in a variety of fun social settings for some great discussion, tasty food, and of course, brews!"

The book that will kick off this new collaboration is 1984 by George Orwell. This book was published in 1949 and recently became a best-seller again in January 2017 due to the recent political climate. Despite it being a classic, McKeon adds "Even if you've already read it or have read it and HATED it, come anyway! We want a discussion!".
The group is free to join for those in their 20-30s-"ish", and those outside of that age range are also told not to worry. The Shrewsbury has other book groups for all ages.
