Shrewsbury Mom Shows Opposite Emotion in 2018 Back-to-School Pic

Last year's back-to-school social media sensation went in a completely different direction this year.

SHREWSBURY, MA — What a difference a year makes. A Shrewsbury mom whose back-to-school photo in 2017 showed her celebrating her daughters' departure with champagne and a joyous leap has done a 180-degree turn this week.

Jackie Fashjian became a social media sensation last year with her celebratory picture, which generated thousands of Facebook likes, shares and comments. Despite the obvious tongue-in-cheek nature of the gag, she said some people took it seriously and issued criticism.

"Last year I was called an alcoholic mother, living off the system who hates her children and lives to traumatize and embarrass them," she wrote on her Facebook page.

To counter those critics, Fashjian posted a photo this week which is in stark contrast to last year's. In the latest rendition, she is flat on the ground, clinging to the ankles of her daughters Hayley and Millaina, with a distraught look on her face.

"I figured I would go in the opposite direction," Fashjian wrote. "Now the haters can say I am a clingy, needy helicopter mom that doesn't know when to let go. Ha!"

She told Patch, "This year's was kind of a rebuttal to all of those haters that said such mean and nasty things about the first one. I couldn't help myself! Some people are bats**t crazy!"

She also quipped, "On a side note, I think I need a new robe."
