Shrewsbury Postal Processing Unit Closing Delayed

The Shrewsbury Postal Processing Plan's expected closing this year has been delayed until 2014.

The U.S. Postal Service announced that the Central Massachusetts Processing and Distribution Center's proposed closing will be delayed until February of 2014.

The first phase of closures will begin this summer, but the Shrewsbury plant - located at 192 Main St. and employing over 500 people—is currently one of 89 consolidations scheduled to begin in Feb. 2014, according to the DailyShrewsbury.com.

"We revised our network consolidation timeline to provide a longer planning schedule for our customers, employees and other stakeholders, and to enable a more methodical and measured implementation," said Patrick R. Donahoe, Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of the Postal Service in a press release on Thursday.
