Shrewsbury Resident Drafted by Oakland Athletics

With the 761st pick of the 2013 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, the Oakland Athletics pick Shrewsbury resident Jon Massad.

The pick came just after 4 p.m. last Tuesday during the 25th round of the draft.

According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, Massad went to high school at St. John's then played college baseball Southern New Hampshire University where he just completed his senior year.

Massad told the Telegram he tried to avoid the online draft tracker, but when he went to check what round they were on he got sucked in and soon saw his own name appear on the website.
