Shrewsbury Whole Foods To Open This Month
The supermarket will open in the iconic Spag's space on Rt. 9.

SHREWSBURY, MA – Whole Foods is coming to Shrewsbury this month. The company recently announced a grand opening date of Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at Lakeway Commons, a burgeoning mixed-use development built over the iconic Spag's store on Rt. 9. The development will feature 250 apartments, 13 townhouses and 80,000 square feet of retail space, MassLive reported.
Fifty-thousand of those square feet will be dedicated to Whole Foods, which will have a restaurant called Borgatti Bar in memory of Spag's founder Anthony “Spag” Borgatti, according to the Telegram & Gazette. After being rebranded as Building 19 in 2004, the retail store closed in 2013 and was used as an antiques shop until it was knocked down last year.
The store plans to make 150 full- and part-time hires, the Telegram reported.
