Albany Street Bridge Debris Falls On Nearby Tracks, Prompts Delay

Photos show massive chunks of concrete on the tracks last night, but today it should only mean minor delays according to officials.

BOSTON, MA — MBTA Crews cleared what appear to have been massive chunks of concrete that fell from the Albany Street Bridge onto commuter rail and Amtrak tracks nearby, according to officials this morning.

After a chunk of sidewalk fell from the nearby Albany Street bridge Monday evening onto the tracks around 7 p.m., it took crews until 4 a.m to clear the area a spokesperson from Keolis told Patch. There is still a speed restriction in that area but no major impact on service, he said.

"This is likely due to the heavy rains and crews responded quickly to make necessary repairs and remove speed restrictions," said Justin Thompson of Keolis adding that a speed restriction is still in place and will be lifted after some additional work is completed before Wednesday morning’s commute.

There were no injuries, according to Keolis.

No word if anyone was injured or what the state of the bridge is at this point. Neither the spokesperson for MassDOT nor the spokesperson for Keolis returned request for comment on next steps with bridge repair.
