A Level 2 hazmat response was called to the Southampton Street parking lot late Tuesday afternoon.

BOSTON, MA — About 400 people were evacuated from a South End shelter late Tuesday afternoon after a fuel truck spilled more than 100 gallons of gasoline. A Level 2 hazmat response was called in, but there were no injuries reported.

The Boston Fire Department said it responded to the City shelter's parking lot on Southampton Street around 4:20 p.m. The spill was contained, but hazmat technicians will remain on scene throughout the night to clean and check air quality. The shelter is expected to reopen when the air quality gets back to normal.

The people in the shelter were moved to a temporary overnight shelter on Northampton Street, the Boston Fire Department said.
