Dartmouth Park to Re-Open on Saturday

Volunteers invited to Saturday's clean-up followed by a barbecue hosted by residents of Haley House.

1. Mostly sunny skies to start your weekend with more warm temps and less wind. Forecasts are predicting highs in the upper 60s and just a 10 percent chance of precipitation.

2. Volunteers are needed to help clean up the Dartmouth Pocket Park, which will be with neighborhood events to promote active use of the somewhat-controversial space. In addition to the clean-up, which will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, volunteers are invited to a community barbecue at noon hosted by residents of Haley House. 

3. Wednesday night the city's school committee unanimously approved the extension of Superintendent Carol Johnson's contract to 2015. Johnson became BPS superintendent in 2007, after serving as superintendent of Memphis, Tenn., and, earlier, Minneapolis, Minn., schools. She earns a salary of $266,750 a year. Read more here.

4. This Saturday, drop off unused/expired prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs at the in the South End. The city is participating in the second nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which gives residents an anonymous, safe and environmentally friendly option for drug disposal. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the D-4 station on Harrison Ave.

5. Jaho Coffee & Tea, the South End's, is hiring for its future Washington Street location. The shop is hiring baristas and baker/kitchen help. Click here to apply.
