Five Things: Tree Downed by Irene to be Replaced
A Rutland Square neighbor has offered to donate the cost of a replacement tree.

Today is Friday, November 18. Here are five things you need to know today:
1. The sun returns today but temps are falling. Expect highs in the upper 40s and wind gusts up to 25 mph.
2. Rutland Square was one of many South End neighborhoods to lose a beloved tree during Hurricane Irene. According to the Rutland Square Neighborhood Association, one of the lost trees was an ornamental pear tree, a species that produces beautiful blossoms but also has unstable limbs. Rather than wait to have the city replace the tree (which would take years) a generous neighbor has agreed to fund the cost of a new tree. A new variety of tree (chosen by the neighborhood) will be planted next spring.
