Five Things: Police Group Donates to Animal Rescue League
BADGE, inc. presented the Boston non-profit with a $3,000 check.

2.The Animal Rescue League of Boston was presented with a check for $3,000 from BADGE, inc., a police organization founded a decade ago. The check represented the proceeds from BADGE's annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Harbor Cruise.

3. After weeks of drama, the Senate passed legislation raising the debt ceiling on Tuesday, allowing the United States to continue paying its bills. That same day, Mayor Menino weighed in on the crisis, urging Washington to shift its focus to the economy and job creation.
"We are all tired of the games being played in our nation’s capital – where important issues are brought to the brink without efforts for true compromise," Menino said in a statement. "As more details are determined, I urge the Congress to prioritize measures that will ensure our continuing economic growth...I am pleased that this deal protects Social Security and Medicare, but without stabilizing our revenues it is hard to call this a ‘balanced’ approach."
