Five Things You Need to Know Today, April 13
Fog and rain, youth rally and job opening.

Today is Wednesday, April 13. Here are five things you need to know:
1. More rain is expected today along with patchy fog and cooler weather. Temperatures will remain in the mid-40s with 100 percent chance of precipitation.
2. Over 250 youth rallied at City Hall during Councilor Felix G. Arroyo’s hearing on youth summer jobs last Tuesday. Among them was Paul Gonzalez, a student at ABCD University High School in the South End.

“My first summer job taught me the value of hard work," Gonzalez said. "I’ve seen my mother and my father working hard. ABCD and the Boston Youth Fund gave me the opportunity to work, get what I need, and also give to my brothers and sisters. I want to make my parents proud.”
Even with level-funding from the Administration’s budget, the City of Boston is facing a cut from the state and federal level that eliminates 2,400 jobs, according to a press release issued by Arroyo's office.

3. Tastiest job ever? The South End's Flour Bakery is hiring full- and part-time counter help. The position promises "all the pastries you can eat" in a fun, team-oriented environment. Apply in person at the Washington Street shop.
4. Two garden plots are available in the . Both plots are shaded and located in the front of the Rutland Street garden, which has a convenient water supply and patio area with benches. If you're interested, more information can be found here. The fee for gardening is $45 per season.
5. The Young Families and Education Subcommittee of the ONEin3 Boston Mayor’s Advisory Council will host a panel and forum on male parent involvement this Thursday at Madison Park High School in Roxbury. The event, titled “Increasing the Role of Father Figures in the Lives of BPS Students,” aims to do just that, especially since research shows that father figure involvement in student’s lives and education leads to higher achievement and better behavior and overall health among students.
Thursday’s event will feature resources for 1) parents looking to become more connected with schools, 2) how-to assistance for schools and parent/site councils looking to enhance their outreach, male participation, or start a Dad's Club and 3) other resources promoting healthy male involvement (not limited to just fathers).
