Five Things You Need to Know Today, March 11

Daylight Saving Time, more rain and weekly fun runs.

Today is Friday, March 11. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Does this sound familiar? Today's forecasts are calling for rain, patchy fog, and winds around 15 to 20 mph. Temps should reach the mid 50s. The good news? The weekend is looking mostly dry with warmer weather and even some (gasp) sun! Time to get out the grill?

2. Sundown Friday marks the start of the National Day of Unplugging. Scheduled to coincide with the Jewish Sabbath, the day is meant to encourage us to disconnect our devices and reconnect with one another. So turn off your computers, close your phones, and schedule a lunch date. Oh, but check South End Patch before you shut down. Obviously.

3. Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday at 2 a.m., so remember to spring your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday. Losing an hour of sleep is never fun, but spring is now less than 10 days away!

4. District 7 City Council candidates Tito Jackson and Cornell Mills went head-to-head last night in their first (and likely last) South End debate. Check out our coverage by columnist Chris Treacy at 6 a.m. and don't forget to mark your calendars for the election next Tuesday.

5. Feel like getting in shape? Recently, the weather hasn't been cooperative, but with spring around the corner and the snow all but melted it's safe to pound the pavement again. Join the for their weekly tomorrow at 10 a.m. A group of runners meets outside their 625 Tremont Street shop for a long run (they call it a "fun run").
