Five Things You Need to Know Today, March 29
More wind, spring maintenance and expired food in schools.

Today is Tuesday, March 29. Here are five things you need to know:
1. Windy weather continues today with temps reaching the mid-40s and gusts up to 25 mph. The skies are slated to be only partly sunny, with rain in the forecast later this week.
2. If you’re a young person who wants to get involved in the community, the Mayor is looking for candidates for his Youth Council. There’s an information session on March 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at room 801 in City Hall. The application for the Youth Council is due April 15. For details visit: www.bostonyouthzone.com/myc.

3. Winter’s over, but it sure left its mark. Now, it's time for spring maintenance. Make sure your storm windows are lowered and not broken. Take a walk around the exterior of the house and look for areas that need attention. We've got many more tips, straight from a home inspector, .
4. As you've probably heard, City Councilor John Connolly found frozen food in Boston Public School cafeterias, prompting the council to hold several public hearings last week. Connolly is now asking the schools to hire a nutrition expert to manage inventory.

“They need to make those changes for the long term to make sure kids are getting healthy meals at every meal and the department is run in a cost efficient manner,” he said.

5. What shops would you like to see on Washington Street? Washington Gateway Main Street wants to know your answers. The organization's Economic Development Committee is developing a survey to be administered on the street by local volunteers - so if you see someone with a clipboard, don't be alarmed.
