12 Hospitalized In Level 3 Hazmat Situation In South End
A report of noxious fumes had firefighters evacuate the five-story building Friday afternoon.

BOSTON — Eleven firefighters and one resident hospitalized after a Level 3 hazmat situation in the South End forced people from a Washington Street rooming home. Firefighters said someone called about a potential chemical or gas spill at the five-story building in the South End around 12:15 p.m.
It was reported that noxious fumes were on the third floor. An inspection has cleared the building of hazardous gas. Authorities say it appears to have been a combination of two cleaning supplies that do not mix: ammonia and bleach. Officials are reminding residents not to mix things like Pine Sol and bleach when cleaning.
