3. Time to start spring cleaning - between April 25 and May 20 the city will pick up any leaves and yard waste at 7 a.m. on recycling day. Place everything in large paper leaf bags or open barrels labeled "yard waste" (no plastic bags). Yard waste stickers are available by calling (617) 635-4500. You can also tie branches up with string, and bundles should be a maximum of three feet long and one inch in diameter. Or, you can always compost instead.
4. No debris in your yard? Help clean up some of the green spaces in the city by volunteering for the Department of Conservation and Recreation's fifth annual Park Serve Day on Saturday. Last year, more than 4,000 volunteers worked in 69 parks across the state to pick up litter along ocean beaches, clear debris from hiking trails, paint benches, and plant trees and flowers at picnic areas.
