Once home to the St. James Hotel, the newly renovated brick building tucked behind the historic on Father Francis Gilday Street is now partially home to The Marais, a boutique apartment complex promising the “style and flair of a Parisian home” in its eight luxurious units.
Still two months away from completion, the units are single level, with private elevator entrances, windows on three sides and large private walk-out decks. The units also include garage or covered parking.
So far, the project is a real estate agent’s dream – all eight units have either been leased or applied for, according to Daniel Hubbard of Mitchell Properties, the project’s developer. The units range in price from $2,600 to $6,750 per month.

“It was a wonderful surprise for us to see so much interest so quickly,” Hubbard said in an email to Patch.
Since units will not be ready for occupancy until September, a model residence has been set up to provide a “full scale preview” for prospective renters. Furnished and decorated by Dotty Volpe of The Redecorators, the unit showcases the marble bathrooms, stone counters and period detailing described in a website devoted to the project.

“When we opened the building for leasing in June as walls were just going up, Brad and John from could take people through to show them the view of Back Bay, 9+ foot ceiling heights, and floor to ceiling window openings, but prospective renters had to imagine how it would all come together,” said Dave Traggorth, Director of Development for Mitchell Properties.
The Marais bills itself as pet-friendly, and will have a pet spa onsite, according to its website.
Just a few blocks away, luxury residences will be popping up at the former on St. George Street and the Concord Baptist Church on Warren Ave. Both projects are expected to produce million dollar condominiums when completed.
