Most Dangerous Intersection In Massachusetts

Intersections generally stink around the Bay State, but this one takes the cake.

BOSTON, MA — "This is the worst intersection everrrr," you say as you roll your eyes at every intersection you drive through. But there is only one intersection in Massachusetts that stands above the best as the most dangerous - and of course it's in Boston.

Time Magazine compiled a list of each state's most dangerous intersection using data from 2003-12 from a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study on fatal crashes, counting how many occurred within about 150 feet of on another.

In Massachusetts, the most dangerous intersection is the one at Columbia Road and I-93. You've been there if you've ever driven from the north to the old Boston Globe building, BC High, or UMass-Boston.

The intersection is populated by drivers getting off Exit 15 on 93 South to go right toward Dorchester or left into Southie or onto Morrissey Blvd. (or straight back onto 93, for the generally confused.)

It's a mess, and it isn't just Time that says so. NBC Boston this year compiled the worst intersections in Massachusetts based off 10 years of data from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Those numbers said 296 crashes were reported - with 78 involving injuries - through 2013.

NBC Boston also said the intersections with the most fatal crashes were at I-93 at I-495 in Andover and Rtes. 3 and 18 in Weymouth.
