South End's Morse Fish Co. To Close
You have a couple of weeks to pay a visit and then the plan is to close up shop.
SOUTH END, MA — It has been a landmark seafood spot for more than a century, but it's closing up shop. You have a couple of weeks to get down and get the beauty that is the fish and seafood at Morse Fish Co on Washington Street.
According to folks who work there this is the end of the line for the fish market and cafe and there are no plans to open up anywhere else. It's slated to close "in the next couple of weeks," according to one employee.
Morse Fish Company opened in 1903, making it one of the oldest in the area. It offers fresh fish for market sale and everything from grilled swordfish with rice and broccoli to fried shrimp and haddock. Think: no frills affordable seaside fish market.

On a recent day people would wander in and order from one of two counters. If they chose hot eats, they headed to the back of the market and placed an order over the high counter and after a few minutes the fish on sale near the front of the store would transform into lunch.
Folks throughout the afternoon would also saunter in and order from the fish market counter and head back out into the sunshine.

"I can tell you one thing, they're certainly going to be missed," said one customer who noted he heard about it after asking about the lease sign in the window. "There aren't any other places around here like this that are this good."
The space went up for lease in February. And the news comes as a number of competitors have sprung up near by, including the Fish Shack on Harrison Ave in 2016 and more recently Lobstah On A Roll on Columbus Ave.
Morse Fish is at 1401 Washington St. and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
