The Week in Review: Radical Bookstore Moving Out

This week brought news of the Lucy Parsons Center's plans to relocate to Jamaica Plain. The radical bookstore and community center will be here for just a few more months. Scores from last year’s mathematics portion of the MCAS test administered to grades 3-5 at Blackstone Elementary School will be voided after suspicious fluctuations in the results prompted an investigation by state officials last September.

Salvation Army representative Gayle Senak came out to speak to the Blackstone & Franklin Square Neighborhood Association Tuesday night about imminent renovations to the Salvation Army building on Washington Street in the South End. The $5.8 million project has successfully passed through the hands of all gatekeepers and construction is slated to begin May 1 with an estimated completion date of March 1, 2012.

An effort by South End residents to return East Berkeley Street to its original name has been taken up by City Councilor Bill Linehan who requested a hearing on the issue earlier this month.

A proposal by Beacon Hill and Back Bay residents to increase the number of recycling days across the city was discussed as a future possibility if Bostonians begin to recycle more of their waste.
