Yarmouth Street Fire Sends Five to Hospital

Building fire caused roughly $200,000 in damage.

A building fire on the fourth floor of a Yarmouth Street apartment building sent five people to the hospital and caused $200,000 in damage, fire officials reported Monday evening.

The blaze, which broke out shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday in a brick apartment building near Columbus Avenue, was reportedly started by an unattended candle, according to fire officials on the scene.

Fire crews were able to knock the fire down quickly, with one firefighter suffering minor neck burns. One adult and two children were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. They were released Monday night. Another person was admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital with burn injuries.
