18 Percent Of Waltham Residents Have Gotten A Vaccine Dose

Seniors have received the most vaccinations.

WALTHAM, MA β€” Eighteen percent of the city's some 66,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Waltham, where those 75 or older have received the second-most vaccinations despite making up just 6 percent of the city's population. Seventy-two percent of those 75 and older have received at least one dose, while 39 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Fifty percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 12 percent are fully vaccinated. That group only makes up 11 percent of all the fully vaccinated people in Waltham, a number far outpaced by the 30-49 and 50-64 age groups.

Overall, 11,802 of the 66,447 residents in Waltham have received at least one dose and 5,997 are fully vaccinated.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed continued Waltham has seen a slight uptick in cases for the second week in a row.

The positive test rate rose from .98 percent to 1.16 percent, while the average daily incidence rate per 100,000 also rose from 22.3 to 27.9.

There were 260 confirmed cases in the past two weeks, bringing the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 4,948. A recent spike in cases at Bentley University, prompted the school to go on coronavirus lockdown.
