Beyond the Binary Exhibit Opens On Moody Street

A photo and interview series centers on gender nonconforming and trans folks across the United States. It's on display through August 22.

"Beyond the Binary" is a collection of photo portraits and interviews featuring transgender people. It will be on display through August 22 at the Lincoln Arts Project on 289 Moody Street.

The opening reception was held on July 19. Two dozen attendees viewed the nineteen portraits and had then opportunity to speak with the artist local photographer Alex Mancini.

Mancini's project began in 2016 and culminated this year, with the inclusion of more than 60 people.

A participant talk is scheduled for August 9 at Lincoln Studios.

This will include a panel discussion with Mancini and project participants. They will discuss gender, identity, and culture. After the discussion, the panelists will be available for further conversation.

The artist's mission with this collection is to "serve as both a learning experience for some and a restorative experience for others."
