Books in the Hub

HUB and BBF Smash

It's HUB Week in Boston, which means all kinds of innovative, techie, futuristic experiences will fill Boston with a sci-fi feel. The week culminates with the 10th Annual Boston Book Festival. This is one of my ab-fab events; to me the BBF is a holiday! I am walking on figurative air. Not only am I participating some afar-out happenings in the hub of the universe, I am also exceedingly proud to say that I am a Captain in the Boston Book Festival! The appointment does not come with a fancy uniform, but I will score a T-shirt! Follow me through the week an we can celebrate our lit environment together!

Tuesday 10/9 Boston Book Festival Book Hunt
Keep your twitter feed open! I am a "hider" in the BBF Book Hunt! Two different books will be hidden locally, and I will provide clues as to where to find them. When you find one, the book is yours to keep, in addition to other goodies in the package. My twitter handle is @Jessica__Lucci. Best game of hide and seek EVER!

Wednesday 10/10 Brookline Booksmith 7PM: "How to Invent Everything" by Ryan North (a featured author at BBF).

Saturday 10/13 is the big day: Boston Book Festival! This is the 10th year, overflowing with games, author signings, workshops, kids' activities, exhibits, and bookish fun. I will be Captain at the Old South Church in the Mary Norton room.

Come join me as authors Sy Montgomery and Vicki Croak present "Memoir: An Animal Story." They will divulge lessons learned from love of animals, and provide writing tips to bring furry and scaly characters to life in words.

Stay for a tech-enlightening talk: "Twitter ate My Brain." A bright panel of gurus in interlinked fields will poke your brain and discover how social media is changing society's mental abilities. Digital media expert Scree Screenivasan, child behaviorist Michael Wolf, and Journalist Sylvia Pagan Westphal will blow your mind.

Continue your lit day in the Mary Norton room with fiction writers who explore multi-cultural themes. Yang Huag, Fatima Farheen Mirza, Blair Hurley, Sam Graham-Felsen, and Adam Stumacher will express their unique viewpoints in "Fiction: Between Cultures."

You will be astounded by the true-life tales of "Diplomacy: the Art of the Deal." Wendy Sherman, James Sebenius, and Graham Allison will speak on the enthralling, frightening, life-defying details in their diplomatic experiences.

The final event at Mary Norton is presented by the National Book Foundation: "Why Do Awards Matter?" Shuchi Saraswat of Brookline Booksmith will moderate this stellar panel of authors: Danez Smith, Carmen Maria Machado, and Lesley Nneka Arimah. That's a lot of star power!

Please feel welcome to contact me with any questions or insights into this bookish week!

See you around town!
