Court Denies Appeal For Retrial In Waltham Murder Case | Patch PM

Back in 2010, two Newton teens and a man from Roxbury attempted to rob a Newton North student they knew well. When they failed to lure her outside her home, they planned to meet up with Waltham High School alum Adam Coveney, 29, in a ruse they set up to rob him of Percocet. The trio brought a gun along with masks, gloves and bleach.

Daniel Louis texted Coveney several times under the guise of buying several Percocet tablets, according to court documents.

But instead of buying the tablets, when Coveney came out of his apartment, the three men jumped him, kicking him to the ground, grabbing the drugs. Louis shot the man and then ran to a car where a third Newton resident, and a Waltham resident were waiting.

The two Newton teens pleaded guilty and were sentenced to more than 15 years each, and Louis was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in a state prison without the possibility of parole.

But earlier this year, Louis appealed to the Middlesex Superior Court asking for a retrial, saying the court didn't have probable cause to use his texts. The court, however, denied his attempt, saying the court did have the probable cause it needed.

Police said Vaudo was caught on video at Superior Lobster and Seafood destroying the live seafood at 9:19 p.m., Thursday.

Massachusetts is in its second heat wave of 2021, and weather forecasters are now saying this month, with an average temperature of 72.9 degrees, is on pace to be the hottest June on record in Boston (the previous record holder was June 1976, when the average temperature was 73.2 degrees). The highest temperatures of the current heat wave are likely to be recorded today and tomorrow.

The temps are set to be in the mid 90s through Wednesday. Thursday won't be much better with temperatures only dipping to the upper 80s. Please don't leave your furry friends in the car.

Pastrnak's infant son dies: Condolences from around sports are pouring in after Bruins star David Pastrnak revealed he and his wife lost their infant son. Viggo Rohl Pastrnak was just six days old when he died June 23. "We have an Angel watching over us and we call him SON," Pastrnak wrote in a brief Instagram post Monday morning. "You will be loved FOREVER. Please respect our privacy as we are going through these heartbreaking times."

80,000: The approximate number of New Hampshire who paid Massachusetts income taxes, even as they worked from home during the coronavirus pandemic. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to allow New Hampshire to sue neighboring Massachusetts over the income tax dispute. New Hampshire wanted the justices to declare Massachusetts' collections unconstitutional and order a refund to people who are paying taxes of just over 5 percent.
