Former Waltham Assessor Joe Goode, 62, Died
Joe Goode served Waltham for 41 years and retired last March.
WALTHAM, MA β Former Waltham City Assessor Joseph Goode, passed away unexpectedly February 2. He was 62.
Goode served Waltham for 41 years, according to his friend, Councilor John McLaughlin who stood during the City Council meeting Monday night to remember Goode.
"He was dedicated, loyal, hardworking resourceful, smart and always friendly. He was the best definition of what a public servant should be," said McLaughlin.

Goode grew up in Waltham and was a lifelong resident here before he moved to Belmont only recently. Goode's childhood home abutted McLaughlin's.
"He loved to regale us with stories of the neighborhood and what a great place Warrendale was to live. I'm grateful or him for sharing those memories.

He graduated from Waltham High in 1974 and earned Bachelor's degrees from Bentley University, first in public administration and then, four years later, in accounting, according to his obituary.
He began working for the City of Waltham in 1978 as an accountant in the treasurer's office. From there he became an assistant treasurer, until 1992 when he transferred to the assessor's office. Goode retired last year as the chairman of the Board of Assessors, a post he held for the last 16 years, according to his obituary.
The city held a retirement party for Goode last March.
"I remember his laugh filling the chamber," said McLaughlin. "But the truth is, Joe didn't want the attention... and that was just who he was - a humble public servant and a good friend. "
Goode leaves behind two brothers and a sister and several nieces and nephews. His funeral is private according to his obituary.
