WALTHAM, MA β€” Babbs is a 4-year-old white and brown hound mix that just came up via rescue from Arkansas and is being fostered in Waltham. She is extremely timid after living on her own for a long time, but her foster parents were working on helping her overcome that when she went missing near the area of School and Hammond streets on Wednesday.

She was spotted near Weston and Stow streets shortly after. But no word, since.

Her foster parents and the rescue organization are asking for the public's help in keeping an eye out for her, but because she is so timid and will run β€” and possibly head into the street, anyone that sees her should not approach her, try to catch her, or even call out to her.

"It will put her in a dangerous situation," said Amanda Cunningham who works with the rescue organization. Experts agree. Although it may seem counterintuitive to not chase after a pup, lost dogs, especially rescues, can be a little stressed and running after them can exacerbate that, according to animal experts.

Instead, she said, they are asking anyone who spots her to immediately call 857-600-2640 or 617-877-7890.

Share this story with your friends and neighbors. According to experts, when dogs are alone, their natural instincts come back and cause them to be most active during dusk and dawn, so keep an eye out especially at that time. And let's help bring Babbs home.
