WALTHAM, MA β Rain barrels go on sale in Waltham next month, courtesy of the Great American Rain Barrel Company and Waltham Public Works and Recycling Department. The barrels are used to trap water and prevent it from going into the storm drain so homeowners can reuse it.
According to the City of Waltham, the average 2,400-square-foot roof can catch more than 20,000 gallons of fresh rainwater from May to September. This is a free, easy source of water for homeowners to use on their lawn or garden.
The Great American Rain Barrel Company recommends one barrel for every 100-square-foot garden. Barrels are sold in Forest Green, Earth Brown or Nantucket Gray and cost $79. They will be available locally for pickup on Wednesday, May 24 at 5 p.m. at the DPW Yard, 165 Lexington Street.
