Join the Waltham Land Trust for the Annual Charles River Duck Walk

Fowl fanatics unite this weekend in Waltham, where you'll see a number of different types of birds that have migrated from Canada.

WALTHAM, MA – The bird is the word this Saturday at the Waltham Land Trust's annual Duck Walk along the Charles River.

Between November and March, a smattering of different species of bird migrate from Canada and other northern areas to the Charles River. The Waltham Land Trust would like to point them out to you.

Bring binoculars, or look through one of the scopes, and you'll be able to see birds such as hooded mergansers, ring-necked ducks, golden eyes, ruddy ducks and more. The tour takes the paved path beside the Charles down to Moody Street and back, where sometimes other wildlife like turtles and eagles are visible.

As there will be a great deal of standing around, children are not encouraged to attend. Dogs are also not allowed because they might scare away the birds. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear in case the path is icy.

The tour will meet at the Shaw's parking lot, 130 River Street, at 10 a.m. before embarking. Questions may be directed to Sonja Wadman at 781-893-3355 or swadman@walthamlandtrust.org.
