Before we blast off into summer, let's take a break to look back at May's marvelous whirlwind of events in our Watch City!

Waltham's own award-winning mystery novelist Joanna Schauffhausen provided an enthralling lecture at Waltham Public Library about why arsonists set fires and how they get caught.

Waltham High School's student art show and concert got us in the mood for fair-weather celebrations.

The Charles River Museum on Industry and Innovation sponsored a fascinating historical presentation of Mill Talk: The Life and Times of Francis Cabot Lowell.

The Telephone Museum (open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10:30AM-2:30PM) celebrated an exclusive steampunk telephony experience, and was open all day for free during the Watch City festival.

New England's largest outdoor steampunk festival, the Watch City Steampunk Festival, featured literature, science, robots, theatre, metallurgy, automatons, live music, demonstrations, and all fashion of time-travel steampunk style!

Waltham's second annual Kaleidoscope Festival turned the common into party central with businesses and individuals sharing their unique views and experiences of living in Waltham.

Waltham's first annual Mental Health Awareness Event filled the common with music, dancing, resources, and camaraderie.

Lincoln Studios exhibited "Monsters in May," featuring art ranging from the absurd to the macabre.

The Waltham Museum opened two new exhibits! The "Rex Trailer Collection" was unveiled with special guests from the Rex Trailer family and local historians, including Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, museum board members Barbara Boyd and Jack Valley; Volunteer Pat Valley, and family members Lorene Mason, Herb Mason, and Jillian Trailer-Rollock.

The Waltham Museum's new "Grover Cronin's Exhibit" was launched with a discussion with a special guest, Grover Cronin's grandson, Phillip Cronin. Mr. Cronin's love for Waltham and respect for his family's legacy imbued the new exhibit with unique insights and personal lore.

How lucky are we to live in a city so rich in culture? In the spirit of continued local celebration, I am delighted to share my newest list of free or low-cost events happening in and around Waltham. The backdrop of my choices this month include Waltham High School graduation, Eid al-Fitr, Father's Day, Juneteenth, and Pride Month. Please say hi when you see me!
