This month I have collected a selection of novels for pure summer reading.
"Mylee in the Mirror" by Ellie Collins is a YA drama filled with scenarios that many suburban tweens and teens will relate to. It has a dash of mythology in the form of Aphrodite, but most of the story involves a more realistic plot.
I did not find any of the characters to be particularly likable, and I wish there was more magic in the story. For a young author, it was a charming and well written tale that I am sure will appeal to a lot of people.

"Standby Counsel: A Monica Spade Novel" by Alexi Venice is a crime thriller with lesbian romance.
Monica is a lawyer pulled into defending an accused murderer who may also be dealing nuclear arms. This is way out of Monica's usual scope, and she finds herself escaping danger with her girlfriend Shelby.

Monica and Shelby have only been together for three months, but things are very serious between them. They have a LOT of sex. Jealousy intrudes on their closeness, creating an obstacle for the lovers to get through.

"The Girls With No Names" by Serena Burdick is page turning, heartbreaking, and full of surprises.
It's New York City in the 1910s, and loving sisters Luella and Effie share a joyful secret that eventually leads to their greatest pain. When Luella disappears, Effie sets out to find her, and winds up at the House of Mercy. This is like a prison run by nuns. The girls who live there are horrifically used and abused.
Effie makes some friends who might not actually be friends. She doesn't know who to trust anymore, when she can't even trust the truth. She must choose to dare, or choose to die. The latter seems more probable.
This book shows different points of view very clearly in various chapters, and this is done in an easy to follow way. Breathtaking, awe-striking, heart thumping reading the whole way through. I highly recommend this book to lovers of good fiction.
The fact that this book is based on the real historical House of Mercy makes it even more chilling.
