A damsel in distress in Victorian London must seek and find her own love and adventure apart from her family's plans of grandeur.

Rife with historic details and colloquialism, this is a tale of teen angst and creepiness in a gothic setting.

"You Owe Me One" by Kathryn Hollingsworth

Evil awakens and hurls its hateful focus in gothic Paris, France. It spreads its murky wings through continents and centuries.

Sex, murder, and profanity prevail against virtue.

Eerie, with daemonic passion and thrillingly ornate scenes, this horror story will have you bathing in Holy Water.

"The Monstrous Burden of Professor Darkwood" by John Robert Mills

Archaeology secrets locked in a museum are freed with the inspection of a university professor in Victorian England. Mystery, romance, and lust entwine in this spooky steampunk story.

"The Adventures of Miss Ann Thrope" by Jhedron Luckspar is a sci-fi novella. An assassin travels through space and time to protect her family. The story jumps quickly from setting to setting, creating an appropriate sense of urgency. The weaponry used by the assassin are futuristic and add a blast of steampunk aesthetic.

This book is fast-paced and fun, but the writing felt awkward to me. The emotional demonstrations were redundant. Some objects were overly described, while others lacked information that could have added clarity to confusing chapter breaks. The characters would have been more interesting if more detail was given. There was almost no dialogue, so that the characters seemed flat.

"Something Wicked this way Comes" by Ray Bradbury

More than a scary story, this is a coming of age story in a literal sense. All things feared as a child, loathed as an adult, and longed for throughout life, present themselves in the most innocently chilling ways.

Creepiness that crawls up your spine and reminds you of your worst childhood nightmares. Sentimentality mixed with horror. Fear of the future but not of death. This story bent my mind and gave me some crazy dreams. The language was poetic and heart striking, even when it was at its deadliest.

Get ready for some awesome nightmares.

Happy Halloween!
