National Poetry Month Finale

Waltham and surrounding cities have been celebrating National Poetry Month with poetry readings, book giveaways, children’s activities, author talks, open mics, and poetry slams. The festivities continue throughout the end of April. Poetry is for all people, of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Here are the latest and greatest ways you can enrich your life with sips or gulps of poetry.

This Saturday, Indie Woods is sponsoring a children’s Hands On Poetry event at the Waltham Public Library, in Study Room 4 from 11:30-1. Drop in or stay for the entire session. Using coloured magnets, children can grip stanzas from β€œFarmer in the Dell,” while listening to it being sung and read. Duplos can be used to build poem towers. Appropriate for all ages of children.

Tuesday the 24th, from 6:30-9, Belmont Books is hosting open mic poetry. Their cafΓ© will be open for coffee or treats. All are welcome to listen and share.

Wednesday a Wellesley Books, poets Dan Chiasson and Robin MacArthur will read selections of their works at 7PM.

A Night of Poetry will be held on Thursday at Belmont Books with Krysten Hill, Maggie Dietz, and Sandra Lim, starting at 7 o’clock.

On Saturday the 28th, Hands On Poetry sponsored by Indie Woods returns to the Waltham Public Library for a grande finale from 11:30-1 in Classroom 4. Musical instruments will be provided to explore tone and rhythm in poetry. Free poetry samples and take-home activities will be given to all attendees.

All of Jessica Lucci’s poetry books are only 99 cents this month, including β€œPerson Numbers,” award-winning β€œCode Words,” and brand new release, β€œFreedom for Me.” All proceeds from these books this month go towards children’s poetry enrichment programmes.
