Obituary: Marjorie Avery, 87, Formerly of Waltham

Marjorie raised her family in Waltham and loved helping people, often volunteering to drive people with disabilities to church.

WALTHAM, MA – Marjorie Avery, 87, Of Dover, NH, formerly of Waltham passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She was 87.

Born and raised in Waltham to the late John and Donathilde Roach, she was a graduate of Waltham High School and raised her own family in Waltham. After spending many years in Waltham, Marjorie moved to Carver for 15 years and spent the last 4 years residing in Dover, NH.

Faith was very important to Marjorie, she was very active in Saint Mary's in Waltham, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Carver. She loved to sing and play the piano, and to help people, and volunteered to drive people suffering from disabilities to church. In her spare time she enjoyed decorating for every holiday and landscaping. Her yard was the envy of all of her neighbors.

She was the Beloved wife of the late George Avery and devoted mother of the late Cheryl Avery McCabe, and sister of the late Jan Ryberg and John Roach.

She is survived by her loving children Gail Sjostedt and her husband Barry of FL, Joseph Avery and his wife Laurie of TX, Stephen Avery and his wife Jane of Derry, NH, Deborah Norton and her husband William of Dover, NH, and Kenneth Avery of Boston, her cherished grandchildren Barry Sjostedt, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Framingham, Derek Sjostedt of FL, Brandon Avery of TX, Andrea Curry of FL, Alexander, Kyle, and Nicholas Avery all of NH, George Byam, V and his wife Michele of Chelmsford, and Michael and Allison Norton both of NH, and her great grandchildren Hannah, Myah, and Macy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody St., Waltham, Monday, January 30, 2017 at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Marjorie's life at Saint Mary's Church, 145 School St., Waltham, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2- 6 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
