Parts Of MA, RI See Record Temperatures, Rain On The Horizon

BOSTON β€”Boston Logan Airport reached 70 degrees Saturday, marking one of the warmest days the airport has seen in January.

This is only the third time Boston has reached 70 degrees or warmer in January since 1872 when records began, according to the National Weather Service.

Much of the region broke 60 Saturday afternoon. And it was a record-breaking day in both Boston and Providence by 11 a.m. for Jan. 11.

The old record was 62 in 1975 in Boston and Providence airport hit 62 with the old record 61 in 1975. And folks were out enjoying it:

Next up: The national weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of central and eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island this afternoon and tonight, because of winds. Hold on to your hats, folks: Forecasters are warning of winds to gust in excess of 40 miles per hour.

There's a chance of overnight showers expected Saturday into Sunday. Watch for temperatures to climb in the Greater Boston area to near 70 again, before falling to near 50. Monday, expect highs in the 40s and that will likely be the story for the rest of the week.
