What are some positive things about social distancing for you?"

Jericho Hill Forest
Jericho Hill Forest (Tamara Rose)

I queried Facebook with an uplifting question: "What are some positive things about social distancing for you?" Here are some of the many uplifting answers from our local neighbours.

Michael Barnett Hmmm, here is something that at least I've been thinking about. I'm not a fan of this term social distancing... rather I think the framing is rather wrong. It seems like what is needed now is physical distance but social closeness. In times like these it is more important to reinforce those bonds of family and neighbors. So in that regard, the "social distancing" is enable people to do projects (i.e. we just built a COVID-19" victory greenhouse in our yard, etc...) that you may not have done otherwise with our kids, etc...

Sally Collura I agree with Michael Barnett on the term 'social distancing'.
Other than not shaking hands or hugging people when I see them, and having to close my tearoom for the time being, I find that this time that I wouldn't ordinarily have can be used to focus on me. Getting things done, getting some exercise, reading and just having some 'me time.'

Lisa Papia I have a compromised immune system and I don’t like to share your breathing space so yeah I don’t mind this at all! Also when I walk my dog there aren’t a million people and sounds that block out nature... all good things.

Bob Marcou seeing people out walking and and having the free time to stop (at a distance of course) and talk and bond a little bit. Something special that actually gives me a feeling of community as well as energy, hope and strength. (sort of reminds me of the Blizzard of '78 a little bit). Also cleaning and emptying out draws that have been neglected for way too long. Finding some interesting treasures as well as junk that needs to go.

Lynn Noel I live in Waltham and have a solo small business Digital Heritage Consulting. My new digital studio The Mermaid's Tavern: a Community DIY Digital Studio is livestreaming our second weekly concert on Facebook Live to kick off a weekly series for local artists impacted by coronavirus who may not be set up to stream their own events. I've also hosted the first monthly Online Chantey Sing on Zoom, and have just been requested to host an Online Ballad Sing. I'm actively collaborating with artist friends on the West Coast, in Canada and the UK, and all over New England. And we practice social distancing at home visiting across our 8-foot dining room table, disinfecting all mics and studio equipment, and seating the studio guest at least 6 feet from the tech! Currently trialing a Skype setup for livestreaming with a remote guest.

Tamara Rose Funny you should ask. I’ve been doing daily walks in the Jericho Hill Forest that the city will soon be tearing down to make a literal parking lot.

Annette Colistro Reynolds Priorities become properly aligned. Too often we let outside influences affect our values about what is most important. Our Texas-based company's values are God, Family, Work. Those of us a bit more secular reframe this as Faith, Family, Work. Regardless of beliefs, Family is more important than Work. And ... tonight is game night at the Reynolds household. Thinking of teaching my 6 year old granddaughter how to play Texas Holdem.

Susana Dorley Although I am following the guidelines I am still able to work. I I have absolutely loved seeing kids outside playing!

Joey Capello To the ocean Healing waters of our Atlantic you can feel your spirit soar our souls are infinite so bring it on this life is a small step on our souls infinite journey rock and roll over joey

RΓ³mulo Romero I usually like eating lunch alone. I still have to report to work, so this is nice.

James P. Egan I am doing a lot of reading.
