Rep. Stanley Submits Comprehensive Housing Report to City Council

(January 8, 2021) – Waltham, MA – Rep. Tom Stanley, as chairman of the Waltham City Council’s Ad-Hoc Committee on Affordable Housing, submitted a 38-page comprehensive report to the Council on housing challenges in the City of Waltham.

“Housing is an important part of what makes Waltham a strong community and is an essential part of Waltham ’s future wellbeing. Supplying homes that are affordable for long-time Waltham residents, young families, seniors, veterans and local workers is an important part of maintaining the stability and diversity of our community,” stated Rep. Stanley in the report.

In January 2020, City Council President Paul Brasco at the suggestion of Rep. Stanley formed an Ad-Hoc Committee on Affordable Housing. The committee’s goals were to assess the status of housing in the city, to identify resources relative to housing at the local and state level and to make suggestions for consideration of the Mayor and the City Council in developing long-term housing solutions for Waltham. The Committee met ten times between February and December 2020 to discuss current housing issues, review data and receive information.

“The Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting economic crisis have added both new urgency and added difficulty to addressing the housing problems in Waltham. The city stepped up for Waltham residents to enhance the extraordinary state efforts. The Committee has incorporated many of those challenges still ongoing in the housing report,” added Rep. Stanley.
