Traffic Alert: Waltham Bridge To Undergo 'Urgent Repair'
MassDOT will be closing the Newton Street bridge between River and Main streets in Waltham. Watch for detours until Sept. 19.

WALTHAM, MA β The city said it was recently made aware that the Newton Street bridge has such severe issues it needs "urgent repairs." So, beginning Sunday, Aug. 25 the bridge will be closed and the road between River Street and Route 20/Main Street will be blocked off for the work. The construction is expected to last until Sept. 19.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said the road closure is necessary to allow crews to work on the bridge that carries Newton Street over the MBTA railroad.
Newton Street itself will be open to local traffic only on the north side of the bridge from Main Street to Central Street and on the south side of the bridge from River Street to just south of the bridge.

- Southbound traffic will be directed to follow Route 20 eastbound; right onto Willow Street; and right onto River Street, rejoining Newton Street on the south side of the bridge.
Officials warn drivers that anyone traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution. Watch for detour signage, law enforcement details and advanced message boards to guide drivers through the work area.
