Less than 51 percent of age groups younger than that had at least one dose.

With all of that in the forefront the Waltham Health Department, which had fielded calls and calling those in the city to help trace the path of the virus, found a little time to express their gratitude for the work of residents, business owners and even visitors for their diligence amid the pandemic.

"The COVID-19 Pandemic unfolded quickly, and drastically shifted every aspect of our daily lives. You ALL have been such an integral part of stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this unprecedented time," the city said in a statement.

As of June 10, there were 5,644 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Waltham since the beginning of the pandemic.
