Resilient. If there is one word that describes the girls in the WHS Girls Basketball program, this is it. It has been a season of setbacks and challenges coupled with persistence, hope, and creativity.

After a 14 day quarantine to start the season, the girls in this program have been plagued by injuries, quarantines (thankfully no spread!), virtual & inconsistent practices, a short roster, and a midseason shutdown.

But the love of the sport and the experience of being something bigger than themselves has driven this group to make what they can of their season. Practices have been pulled off either in corners of the gym or in driveways using Zoom. Team dinners have been β€˜bring your own pasta’ to the Zoom calls. Games have been played with masks and no spectators. But still these ladies are grateful to get any play time in!

They adopted as their unofficial motto a quote from one of the greats:
β€œLove is playing every game as if it’s your last!” --Michael Jordan

With the spectre of COVID shutdown always looming, this quote seems to really fit.

These girls have given everything they can to their sport which has also helped them so much during this difficult and unpredictable time. β€œBasketball is the only thing that has kept me going”, said Sophie H, a varsity player. Having a group goal and some structure during this time has been key for these girls at a time where isolation and uncertainty seem the norm. Knowing that, we want to keep these student athletes feeling engaged and supported!

If you are interested in supporting these girls, please plan an evening to watch the Hawks on Senior Night this coming Wednesday, Feb 3rd 5pm, at home on the livestream link. This (free) link will be posted on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LadyHawksHoopstersBoosters along with information about our sponsors, membership and fundraising efforts. The team would love nothing more than to see their "views" go through the roof this Wednesday.

Check it out and be sure to β€˜Like’ the page to keep in the loop! We are always looking for new members and sponsors to show these girls how much their community supports them. If you'd like to join in, please give us an email at ladyhawksboosters@gmail.com - we'd love to hear from you!
