According to court documents, on June 9, 2016, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a Cybertip from AOL.com. The Cybertip reported that six digital images of young children posing nude were sent via email on April 26, 2016. The internet address was traced to Tulimieri, police allege.

On July 28, 2016, Waltham and State Police executed a search warrant of Tulimieri's Waltham home. In speaking with Tulimieri, he admitted the email address was only used by him.

Tulimieri told police that he had been in possession of and engaged in distribution of child pornography for about 15 years, according to court documents. Tulimieri explained that he would engage other internet users in a chat room to arrange to send and receive child and adult pornography.

He told police he used his laptop and thumb drive to keep and send pornography. Police reviewed the images on his devices and 2,000 images of child pornography and 100 videos, police allege.

One of the images police discovered depicted a nude toddler, about 18-24 months old, with his genitals exposed and an adult male involved in a lewd act, police allege.

Tulimieri also admitted to taking a nude photo of a 7-year-old girl and emailing it over AOL.com, which resulted in the Cybertip.
