According to a recently published report by consumer finance site NerdWallet, alongside Entrepreneur.com, Waltham came in at number 12 on the list of the top small cities in which to start a business. NerdWallet and Entrepreneur took a look at 463 U.S. cities with populations of 50,000 to 100,000 to determine where the best opportunities existed.

NerdWallet determined its rankings by crunching census data based on business climate (average revenue, percentage of businesses with paid employees and businesses per 100 people), and local economic health (median income, median housing costs and unemployment rate).
