WALTHAM, MA β€” More Than Words, a youth-run bookstore that empowers and trains system involved young people, re-opened its bookstore July 6 in Waltham after 16 months.

The bookstore closed on March 13 last year as the rest of the state shut down amid the pandemic.

"While we have been operating online throughout and have been continuing youth programming, training, and support, this is our re-opening to the public," Naomi Parker of the store said in an email.

The nonprofit got its start in Waltham in 2004, and employs and supports 300 youth β€”between the ages of 16 to 21β€” annually who are in the foster care system, court-involved, homeless, and out of school across locations in Waltham and Boston’s South End.

The Moody Street location of More Than Words opened in 2005, but closed that shop in 2017 and consolidated with the Felton Street warehouse location, where book sales continued mostly online.
