Why I'm Running the Boston Marathon: Maria Harlow
The Waltham resident, running for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, already has 400 miles under her belt this year. What's 26.2 more?

WALTHAM, MA β Maria Harlow has run over 400 miles this year, so what's 26.2 more? It may be the most important distance yet for the Waltham resident, who is running the Boston Marathon to raise money for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber.
"My family has experienced the devastating effects that cancer can have on so many people and their families," Harlow wrote in an email. "To help protect other families from similar tragedies, I have jumped headfirst into supporting [the program]."
Harlow has already raised more than $12,000 in support of scientists on the "cutting edge" of cancer research, who work to develop better cure rates and enhance the quality of life for patients. While raising money, she has spent the winter running hundreds of miles in preparation for the Boston Marathon.
