Work Begins To Replace Waltham Bridge
If you ever cross the Woerd Ave bridge, be warned: It will be out of commission until 2020 as crews work to replace it.

WALTHAM, MA β The Woerd Avenue bridge is coming down soon. But you have some time to prepare for the detours that will pop up. The city announced that preliminary work on the bridge will begin just after Memorial Day, and the full bridge closure will go into effect in the fall.
From the end of May through December 2020 MassDOT crews will be working to replace the bridge.
This has been long in coming. Back in 2013 a request was made for repairs, but it wasn't until 2017 that there was a public hearing about it and it wasn't until last January the final design and process was approved.

When the new bridge is finished the existing bridge on Woerd Avenue over the Charles River will be replaced with a new infrastructure that includes sidewalks, railing, a deck and shoulder for bike usage.
