Library Programs for Teens

See what your children can do at the library.

The Westborough Public Library has announced its lineup of programs for teens entering grades 6-12 for the summer.

All Summer: Teen Summer Reading Program. Register online at  http://www.readsinma.org/westborough (click the Teen Summer Reading tab). Log the time you spend reading, listening to audiobooks, watching movies based on books, and writing. Every week there will be a drawing for a gift card, and if you write a review of what you read you get an extra entry for each review you write!

July 23 and Aug. 13: "Own the Night" TV Production Camp from 6-8 p.m.

Ever wanted to learn how to write, shoot, and create a great video? Now's your chance! Join the staff of Westborough TV for three fun, hands-on sessions and leave at the end with your own video. Some of the things you will learn include how to write a good script, planning your production, camera technique, using a "green screen" for special effects, good lighting and more! This program is open to teens entering grades 6-12 in the fall. No younger siblings or parents! Space is limited – call the Reference Desk at 508-366-3050 x3 to register.

July 13: Library/Hot Summer Nights Movie Night, 7-9 p.m.

The Library and Hot Summer Nights bring you Teen Movie Night. Open to teens entering grades 6-12 only. The movie will be selected via survey through Hot Summer Nights. (No parents or younger siblings allowed!) Bring a pillow or blanket to sit on. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. Best part? It's all free! Thank you to the Friends of the Westborough Public Library for providing the license that allows movies to be shown in public, and for the refreshments.  July 18: Library/Hot Summer Nights “Cooking with Bruce”, noon to 2 p.m.

The Library and Hot Summer Nights present Cooking with Bruce, a fun, delicious, and free, program! Come learn how to make some simple recipes with only a few ingredients and maybe a microwave. Teens entering grades 6-12 only! All food will be provided, thanks to generous support from the Friends of the Westborough Public Library. Aug. 1: Teen Jewelry Making Class, 6-8 p.m.

Back by popular demand: Jewelry Making with Sharon! Sharon did a jewelry class at the library last year and it was a packed house. Come learn how to make beautiful jewelry from memory wire and gorgeous beads. Teens entering grades 6-12 only; no younger siblings or parents! Space is limited – call the Reference Desk at 508-366-3050 x3 to register starting July 18.

The 2012 teen summer reading program, “Own the Night,” is sponsored by the Westborough Public Library, the Friends of the Westborough Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
