Oh Deer! Westborough Fire Crews Rescue Deer From Icy Water
Rescuers had to chop the ice to give the deer a path to swim back to shore.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — One Westborough deer has fire crews to thank for pulling it out of a chilly situation on Thursday morning.
The deer fell through the ice at Lake Chauncey on Thursday morning. Westborough fire crews had to chop the ice from the shore to the patch of ice where the deer was stuck to help it out — the chopped ice created a path for the deer to swim to shore.
Fire officials said the deer was not injured and was able to walk away from the lake. Fire officials stressed that the ice is not safe everywhere in the lake.
