Ralph Matthews Served With Army, Worked as Kitchen Designer

Calling hours are Sunday, and the funeral is arranged for Monday.

Ralph M. Matthews, 76, of Westborough, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center, Westborough, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Rosemary V. (Malone) Matthews.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late David and Christine (MacPhail) Matthews. He was a graduate of Medford High School and attended Bentley College.

During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he served with the United States Army.

Ralph was employed as a kitchen designer and sales representative for Somerville Lumber and Home Depot prior to his retirement.

He had resided in Westborough for many years moving to Clearwater, FL for ten years then returning to Westborough. While residing in Florida he was a member of a men’s softball league.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Joanne Furbish and her husband, Dan, of Westborough, Michelle Matthews of Westborough and Kerrie Julian and her husband, Charles, of Upton; one brother, Hugh Matthews and one sister, Audrey Stone both of Medford and five grandchildren, Dan Furbish, Jr., Koby Furbish, Cassie Furbish and Allison and Katelyn Julian.

He was the brother of the late Constance Silva and Charlene Matthews.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9, at 10:00 A.M. in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, March 8, from 2 to 5 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Greater Marlborough Program, Inc., 65 Boston Post Rd., Marlborough, MA 01752 (an organization that supports Special Olympics)
