Westboro Gets $5 Million For Vacant Cinema

A $5 million bid was accepted from LAX Media to take over the old Regal Cinemas

According to Telegram.com the Board of Selectmen recently accepted a bid on the vacant Regal Cinemas theater on Route 9. The bid, the highest received, was for just over $5 million by LAX Media. The company operates Apple Cinemas in Cambridge, and Waterbury and Barkhamsted, Connecticut.

The theater was the only one in town and had been vacant since last fall. The town couldn't track down the original owners of the property and decided to sell the space. Since the original owners are nowhere to be found the town keeps the money, making itself an easy $5 million.

The property was appraised at $4.79 million. According to the Telegram.com, there were two other bids that included maintaining a movie theater on the property, both lower than LAX Media's bid. A fourth bid would have turned the space into a regional grocery store.
